Flying longer

Air India pilots can now work until they are 65. This makes rules the same for both Air India and Vistara, which are now owned by the Tatas. One reason is fairness, but the bigger reason is a shortage of pilots.

Around the world, people are living longer, having fewer children, and there aren’t enough workers. So, many countries are raising the age at which people stop working. For example, Germany and Spain give extra money if you retire later. Japan and Singapore even rehire people after they retire.

In India, some think that older people working means fewer jobs for young people. But actually, the real problem is not enough jobs, not older workers. Teachers, doctors, and other experts are often asked to work longer because their skills are needed. Experienced workers bring stability and knowledge, so retirement age should be more flexible—just like work hours for younger people.
