Police have taken down a knifeman at a Paris train station after he allegedly threatened to slit the throats of two people.

Gare Montparnasse train station was evacuated amid the incident today.

In a statement, the Paris prosecutor’s office said an officer used his “weapon” on the man, who then inflicted knife wounds on himself.

French media reported at least one gun shot was heard.

Local journalist Jean-Baptise Marty said a man had allegedly “threatened to slit the throats” of a child and woman elsewhere before boarding a train.
