New South Wales police are responding to reports of a shooting and multiple gunshots at Bondi beach, Australia, on the first day of Hanukkah.
The public have been urged to stay away from the popular tourist spot as they investigate a “developing incident” in the area, which is said to have multiple casualties.
According to Newswire, 10 people are said to have died, including children and a police officer.
Two people have been taken into custody. Police say the shooters have been “neutralised”.
There is an active police scene to clear the area of suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Two police officers are reportedly injured, although the severity of their injuries is unknown. Police also said it is not known at this stage if the incident is connected to the Hanukkah event taking place on the beach.
“Anyone at the scene should take shelter,” NSW police said.
“Police are on scene and more information will be provided when it comes to hand.”
Several shots are said to have been fired, with witnesses claiming multiple people have been injured at the scene.
Large crowds are understood to have been at the beach to celebrate the Jewish holiday, Hanukkah.
