What do you leave behind?

Recently, I was going through an interview of Novak Djokovic where he mentioned it is important to think that what will we leave behind in this world / Earth once we are no longer part of it in the daily physical form that we have. What is it that we will be remembered for. These are some important words that one can really go deep with. I strongly personally resonate with these words, as in the very recent past my dear grandfather Late JC Pant moved on towards his onward journey. In his lifetime, he worked in civil administration, and went on to become one of the seniors most officials in the country. Through his life, he worked and took up everyday on a mission mode. I do not recollect seeing him waste a single second. He was always up to something, and trying to work towards strengthening our country. During his lifetime not only did he perform the duties that he had with utmost care, honesty, dedication and commitment, but he also was able to set up an institution in which he embedded his vision and these qualities that can work towards strengthening the country. He was an avid follower of Bhagavad Gita and he often told me that every time as we read the shlokas, we are able to interpret the same shloka in a different manner. This is the beauty of Gita he said, as it allows the reader to interpret it based on the life experiences they have. Gita was the guiding principles for his life. Now when he is not around, the institution that he started, his principles still remain. We all think of his name every day, the work he did, and not a single day goes without thinking about him. There might not be many people who are able to have the vision to create something that can last even when they are not around, and that has active energy around it.

It is deep when we think that he is not here but the work remains, and the mission that he had when he was around of strengthening the country continues. Great mentors have the power to inspire people around them with the aura and work ethics they have. I am personally lucky and one of them who got inspired by my grandad, and there are many more. This inspiration then further enables us to take up life in a proactive manner, so when we reach the end of our lives say in the next x number of years, then we are also able to generate a good body of work. Then the cycle may continue, new set of people may come forward to take similar work/thoughts/mission forward in whatever way they can.

When I was younger it seemed not logical when people said that one can be connected with people even when they move on to their next journey. One of the good ways to stay connected with someone can be to connect deeply on the purpose and the vision that they have. If there is an alignment on the same, and the same is able to generate energy and momentum in you, then that is what your purpose / calling can be. Once someone finds something that excites them then working or taking up things does not seem like a task anymore. There is joy in every step and there is always a sense to push more to make the work better. My grandad, I can say was a visionary as he could visualize when he was alive what he should be creating, which can last even when he is not around!
