Saudi Arabia is moving ahead with one of its most ambitious transport projects — a $7 billion “Land Bridge” railway that will connect Jeddah on the Red Sea coast with Riyadh, the nation’s capital, reducing travel time between the two cities to under four hours.

A Transformative Vision for Mobility

The Saudi Land Bridge Project, part of the Vision 2030 initiative, aims to revolutionize domestic and regional logistics. Stretching more than 1,300 kilometers, the high-speed rail line will create the first direct land link between the Kingdom’s eastern and western coasts.

Officials say the project will play a crucial role in boosting trade, tourism, and economic growth, allowing for faster cargo movement and passenger transport across the desert heartland.

Economic and Strategic Significance

Once completed, the Land Bridge is expected to become a key trade corridor, reducing reliance on seaports and shortening freight delivery times from days to hours.
It will also enhance Saudi Arabia’s role as a global logistics hub, connecting the Red Sea with the Arabian Gulf and integrating seamlessly with other regional rail networks.

Part of Vision 2030’s Mega Infrastructure Push

The mega project is led by the Saudi Railway Company (SAR) and supported by both public and private investment under the Public Investment Fund (PIF).
It aligns with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s broader goal to diversify the economy, promote sustainable transport, and strengthen the Kingdom’s logistics and tourism sectors.
