“Mind, Brain, Consciousness” studies is a big Mystery for Western sciences because their motto is ‘nullius in verba’, i.e. not just to believe or accept authority of Church, but ‘see’, realize the truths. So, they try to “see” Consciousness; not realizing that I am That Consciousness which makes me conscious!
In contrast our ancients realized that knowledge of the infinite universe can never be fully known; so, they asked, what is that by knowing which everything else is known, and attaining which everything is attained! From the Vedic times Indian scientists and devotees of this of that, gods and goddess (there were no organized Religions as of today!) have realized and known that as Consciousness we’re all One! So, they went Inwards and sought to know the Life, the source of Consciousness, inner, Subjective.
Our social culture kept us in our respective family vocations, and we learnt to live and work without any formal education as now, and growing up was focused on Inner Governance, mind management thru Abhyas-Yoga to realize, befriend the mind and Consciousness, thru Kartavya-palan, commitment to respective duties based on inherent tendencies, samskaras, etc.
The West is struggling to understand Mind, Brain, Consciousness, because they try to study mind & consciousness as EXTERNAL OBJECTS. We forget I am conscious only when I am enlivened by Life, consciousness or something like it! So, to know That Consciousness, the only way is To be That, by experiencing, realizing I am That I am, by learning to be unattached to our Mind and all its beliefs and infinite past memories which make me believe I am this finite body.
The Infinite Singular Subject, Consciousness that manifests as Life and makes us conscious, living-beings, Jiva-atman contains within it all that appears as if finite world and living-beings.
Mere Knowledge of the ‘finite’ will always keep us limited, self-centered, selfish! So, exhorts Vedanta, Arise, Awake, realize your Divine Infinitude – This is essence of not just Practical Vedanta but of all mankind because In Life there is no death! That’s why we all talk of “Life after Death” as Rebirth or as Day of Judgement, Heaven, Hell, Nirvana, Perfection, Moksha, etc.
Can there be more than one Infinity! Infinite Regression affirms that there can’t be two Subjects! Anything perceivable including thoughts are ‘things, objects’, which are infinite.
Had Preachers and devoted followers or best of scientists really progressed and grown God-wards, towards “Perfection” thru ‘love’ for each other rather than mere ‘Beliefs’ and hatred for the ‘other’, they would certainly realize that while as Body-mind entities we’re all separate but as Life, Spirit, Atman, Rooha, Kingdom of God within, we’re all ONE, there’s no other. From Indian Vedantic wisdom we’ve yet to learn the profound idea that all Body-Mind complexes get Conscious when enlivened by one Infinite Singular Consciousness, Intelligence.
The mathematical idea of infinite regression leads to the Vedantic conclusion that there can’t be two Subjects, Knowers, i.e. Consciousness is one singular infinite existence! Because, if I see you, you are an object. Then You go back to your Subject… leads to infinite series of Subject-Object.
Finite has no independent existence in the Infinite. Do we Finite “Body-LIFE” entities Exist? If we Exist then we must never go out of existence! But Body dies! Inference? As LIFE we exist, thinking I am this limited body enlivened by LIFE, Self, Spirit! Life somehow makes us Conscious. So, what could be the nature of Life? Why don’t we ever explore Life or something like it? All religions and Vedanta ask us to go “inwards”, love each other? Why? Because as Life we must be one! Life that enlivens us must be Eternal Conscious Blissful! Why? Because as finite beings we don’t wish to die; we strive to know and be conscious; and we strive to be blissful thru’ seeking happiness in external world; ignorantly believing that I am this Finite Body-Mind-Memories-Intellect.
It is good that Modern scientists are busy discovering, exploring, seeking and teaching us the Knowledge of the universe, and now thanks to all technological marvels, we are all aware of what’s happening all over the world and how people think and behave. But what do we mean by Knowledge? Mere knowing; mere information? Mere knowing this finite ‘body-mind-self’ and ‘this-that finite things of the universe may be knowledge, but today, Google, Wikipedia, AI can give us all knowledge.
Know Thyself said the ancient Philosophers!
Why did Religious Preachers never allow this seeking within but focused on beliefs and outward rituals. Shouldn’t we as religious devotees and those with scientific and logical minds and as academia reflect and ask what is this LIFE that makes us Conscious living-beings.
Consciousness is Omnipresent Omniscient, is the idea of One God and the game of Creation is to once again Re-Gain (Religion) & Re-Unite (Yoga) with Consciousness, from whence we got attached to our limited Mind-Memories. Only through selfless love, care, concern for all equally, can we realize there’s no ‘other’, love thy neighbor as thyself; selflessly serve/worship mother, father, teacher, strangers to purify memories that see “others”!
Consciousness is Infinite so can finite Mind-Brain discover what Consciousness is? We exist only because of Consciousness and finite beings can intellectually understand and get all knowledge about it, but finite can’t ‘know’, it has to become Infinite!
